The significance of Student leadership Parliament

As ”morning shows the day”, according to some socialist-politician, student leadership parliament is the dawn of a student’s consciousness and sense of responsibility toward his/her society and his/her social circle. Student leadership parliaments are mostly found in higher schools, colleges, universities and in institutions rendering educational training and courses of higher and technical educations. The prime motto behind establishment of student leadership parliament is the first doctrine for the students’ community to act responsible, to maintain behavioral harmony and synchrony with the heritage and culture of the said institution and to coordinate with teachers’ committee for finding out solution regarding the management of organization from the light of well being of concerned students’ community.

Although ideally student leadership parliament needs to be a non-political cultural forum for the development and coordination of institution’s well being and over–all development, in reality these forums are now being lightened by political views and political party colors. Therefore active participation in Student leadership parliament is somehow similar to entering the gateway of active politics in later part of life.

Apart from the way to politics, there are some other concrete objectives of forming student leadership parliament; these objectives are to be considered as the significances of Student leadership parliament.

Righteousness - Key Virtue for a Leader

A leader is expected to be assertive, defining assertiveness as the boldness is pursuing the right path. Many students fail on acting as the leader owing to the fact that they tend to be on the extreme ends of the scale rather than having the right measure is assertiveness.

These traits or skills can never be taught and instilled in a person by a secondary element and are developed by the individual on his own. However, colleges and schools try to bring out the traits in every pupil by instituting a number of varied activities and spawning different organization that are addressed to the students.

Leadership can be witnessed at different levels by students assuming various roles starting from a volunteer to a community helping the blind or a student chairman governing the student activities. Not necessarily only higher positions such as the general secretary narrate the leadership qualities, even a volunteer can exhibit the traits of a leader in his domain. Gearing to a Better Nation: Objectives of the Student Parliament 2011

With the nation witnessing huge political scandals involving the recent 2G scam to the cash-for-vote scandal that agitated the parliament and the Indian politics, the citizens are yearning for a government run by politicians who show decent amount of sincerity and integrity. Case such as the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2002, show that candidates with criminal records won 206 out of 403 seats in the assembly, implying more criminals were elected than regular politicians.

The current Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh has said that the country needed a law to define the meaning of "criminal" - and who should or should not be a minister. Such has been the scenario in Indian politics. The Washington Times reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian Parliament members faced criminal charges, "including human trafficking, immigration rackets, embezzlement, rape and even murder".

Students of many domains have aspired to seek an answer to this long lasting desire for the taxpayers and had initiated political parties with a sense to bring a proper rule but they have not been acknowledged by the commoners, putting back them to square one.

Student Leaders: Deciphering the Right Combination

The general trait which is said to be lacked in many students inclusive of those who posses good academic record or achievement record in sports is leadership skills. Every talk to the student by any guest addressing hundreds of students always ends with a note to them on developing leadership abilities. Undoubtedly, every recruiter in the mission of building his team with efficient people looks for pupil with better leadership abilities than people with academic excellence records alone. Without any doubt, not just CEOs of corporations or managing directors of organizations alone are expected to exhibit leader attributes but also students in this regard.

Putting the broad term ‘Leadership Ability’ in better sense, it is the ability to engage effectively with the community so as to work for the betterment of it. When discussed about the traits of a leader, qualities like creativity, magnanimity, commitment, honesty, vision, sense of humour and fairness are pronounced.

A self-made is not necessarily a leader. A leader is expected to be multi-talented along with an ability to communicate with his peers placidly. Besides being committed to a vision himself, a leader is anticipated to bring out the best in his peers working hand in glove with them. The term magnanimity in brief is the ability of a person to act humbly among his peers.
