India presently has the largest population of youngsters in the 10-19 age groups. At such a stage, sensitization of youth on current political and social issues is the first priority to achieve a better administration in the country. The first Indian Parliament of Student Council Leaders (Bharatiya Chatra Sansad) conducted by the Maharashtra Institute of Technology's School of Government (MITSOG), in Pune, on Jan 12-14, 2011, is the first giant step towards realizing the goal. Attended by political leaders, students, eminent personalities and the media, the event provided a platform to student leaders across the country to voice their concerns over the state of affairs and participate in policymaking.

The fifth session dealt with discussions on increasing job opportunities for youth and provision of better curricula in all educational institutions. The importance of media in social upliftment was also highlighted. It was discussed that obscenity in movies and television should be prevented and that socially relevant messages must be imbibed. The objective of the seventh session was to involve the corporate sector in nation building process and to take steps in prevention of corruption. The eighth objective was to make sure that RTI act is being properly implemented. Other objectives include creation of awareness among leaders on issues relating to national security and for developing solutions to curb threats to the nation’s integrity, development of leadership at the grass-root level by creating awareness and developing a robust attitude towards problem solving, and measures for women empowerment and provision of self-defense for all female students.
